Fontaine Center Internship

This semester I have the opportunity to intern at UGA’s Fontaine Center located in the Health Center. I am excited to get started and I will be documenting my daily experience and schedule here.

1/12/26

Today I started my internship at the Fontaine Center! I met with my supervisor and they gave me a tour around the office and introduced me to some of the individuals I would be working with this semester. After going through some housekeeping items I was given a task of researching what sexual health and wellness resources were being offered by other institutions and if any ideas would benefit the UGA community. I learned a lot while researching and it was interesting to see the differences between Southern and Northern states, private vs. public, and also religious affiliated and non-religious institutions. At 3pm, we set up a tabling event in the atrium of the Ramsey center. We had pre-packed swag bags, badges, stickers and flyers displaying resources, helpful information, events the Fontaine Center would be hosting this semester. I got to speak with a wide variety of students and emphasized the importance of knowing what the Fontaine Center is and how it can benefit students during their time here at UGA.

1/14/26

I started my day with learning about a quicker route from my parking space to the University Health Center which was very helpful for my future time management in the morning. I began my time at the Fontaine Center greeting staff and then met up with my supervisor Aspen. She taught me more about the Condom Express service that we offer here at no charge to UGA students. I was taught about the packing process and also how to send off orders for delivery and pick up. After this, we went over calendar details for events that are occurring in the months of January and February that will enrich my experience here. I have noted that my schedule will be quite busy this semester and that I should buy a planner to help me organize better! In the afternoon, we completed more tabling at Ramsey, handing out more resources and connecting with students. After coming back from the office and having lunch, I began researching national days of the year to come up with some activities to promote health and wellness for the fall semester. One idea I am working on is for the month of August which is “Summer Sun Safety Month”. My initial plan is to create some activities for students to complete in a tabling event. I will continue to work on this idea and will discuss it further with my supervisor during our one on one meeting next week.

1/15/26

Today I attended a short meeting alongside some Fontaine Center peer educators. We discussed plans for this semester and what goals we want to accomplish. It was nice to see some of the behind the scenes stuff that goes on with peer educators and how they plan for activities and events. Overall, it was a fun experience and I recognized a lot of people from public health classes and also my cohort!

1/16/26

Today, I began by focusing on a task that was given to us during our short meeting yesterday. It was focused on creating a blog of 25 things to do in Athens. After forwarding these ideas to Aspen, I continued working on my task of creating events for the fall semester. I focused primarily on brainstorming ideas based on the national health related days each month specifically for the month of September. September is National Campus Safety Awareness month and Friendship month. I create an outline for tabling events that can be used to provide students an opportunity to obtain resources, information, and connect with other students and faculty. After lunch, I participated in outreach training to be confident in handling various situations that may occur during events. It provided me with the ability to act quickly and handle difficult situations and conversations with ease. I am excited to use these skills while having candid conversations with students during events this semester. After this, I worked on our Lemonade stand (belonging initiative) project. Aspen wants this to be an event the Fontaine center hosts each semester and something we are known for having. It was a fun experience to research ways to connect with students, what freebies we could possibly be handing out during these events, and also the best way to create an environment of belonging. Today went by quickly and I am very satisfied with my first week interning at the Fontaine Center.

Summary of Week 1 Matched with Competencies

  • 1.3 Analyze the data to determine the health of the priority population(s) and the factors that influence health.
    • 1.3.4: Assess existing and available resources, policies, practices, and interventions.
    • 1.3.5: Determine the capacity (available resources, policies, programs, practices, and interventions) to improve and/or maintain health.

Summary: On my first day, I was given an assignment to assess what other institutions are implementing to promote healthy behaviours. This experience showed me that here at UGA our health promotion department is very extensive in providing students with resources and programs to handle various health concerns. I focused primarily on sexual health and wellness and found lots of interesting information on resources and programs that other schools are providing their students that have been effective and I think would be a great addition to our current system. Some of these ideas include game nights which can be focused around sexual health and wellness encouraging candid conversations about sexual health. Another example would be a speaker or classroom presentation on safety when swiping on dating apps. These examples have been effective in creating an environment for students to feel comfortable speaking up around taboo topics and understanding what a healthy partner and relationship should be. This experience taught me a lot about our extensive health promotion department but also what can be an effective addition.

  • 6.5 Deliver the message(s) effectively using the identified media and strategies
    • 6.5.1: Deliver presentation(s) tailored to the audience
    • 6.5.2: Use public speaking skills
    • 6.5.3: Use facilitation skills with large and/or small groups

Summary: While tabling at Ramsey, I had the opportunity to speak to a wide variety of students and staff. We had lots of interactive activities that allowed individuals to come up, ask questions, and get some cool swag and merchandise including swag bags, shirts, badges, stickers, and flyers about our upcoming events. An important interactive activity we had was a data collection board when individuals would add a sticker to what aligned best with the prompt “How much do you know about the Fontaine center?”, followed by four quadrants stating “A lot”, “A moderate amount”, “Very little”, and “I have no idea”. This gave us the opportunity to facilitate an active conversation with these individuals. If they had no idea what the Fontaine center was, it was a great opportunity to discuss what we do, what we promote, and how we can benefit their experience while here at UGA. If they did know something about the center, we asked if they could tell us some information they knew and if they had any questions we could answer for them. I worked a lot on my public speaking skills and was able to create a small deliverable presentation that could be tailored to my audience depending on their knowledge of the Fontaine center.

  • 3.2 Deliver health education and promotion interventions
    • 3.2.1: Create an environment conducive to learning
    • 3.2.2: Collect baseline data

Summary: As stated previously, tabling at Ramsey gave us an opportunity to collect data on the degree to which students know about the Fontaine center, how to access it and what programs we offer. We determined that the majority of students were unaware of what the Fontaine Center is and how it can benefit their college experience. We plan to use this baseline information to develop events and programs that can highlight and distinguish us in the future. A current plan is for a yearly lemonade stand that we hope to make the trademark of the Fontaine center.

Week 1 Reflection: When reflecting on my experience over the week as an intern at the Fontaine Center, I am excited by the progress I have made already. I feel like the welcoming environment and friendly staff at the Fontaine Center has made this new experience easy to adjust to. Previously, I have never worked a typical 9-5 office job but this week has shown me it’s something I could become comfortable with. I like the structure and the space I get to work in. I also appreciate having independence working on assignments and projects but also having the opportunity to work with staff and other interns to determine the effectiveness of potential tabling events and activities. I am excited to continue working on projects that are interesting to me and are already moving in a positive direction.

1/21/26

After arriving at the Fontaine center, I began preparing for my first one on one meeting with Aspen. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss my progress throughout my first week and what ideas I have come up with for future semester events and to discuss my first assignments of researching what other school’s health promotion departments are doing that is benefiting the general study body. I felt confident going into the meeting and had an active discussion about planning for next semester and what ideas I should be focusing on. After the meeting, I helped Aspen by cutting and organizing flyers for different events this semester and then collected items for the connection reception event we’re hosting next Tuesday. After lunch, I worked on coming up with some questions that can be interactive for students attending the connection reception and presented these to some staff who gave input. Then, I began working on organizing our calendar for the fall semester. Highlighting dates from the UGA academic calendar, UGA football season dates (home and away), and what events are already being hosted. This will help the office in brainstorming events we want to host during peak times. Highlighting what students might need during specific parts of the semester.

1/23/26

Today, I focused on filling out the Fontaine fall calendar with ideas about different tabling events. Mainly focusing on the months of August and September as they are critical times for incoming freshman, transfer students and the UGA community to learn about the Fontaine center and what resources we offer. I brainstormed some ideas for tabling events surrounding campus safety, friendship month, and handling roommate conflict. As a student myself, I found it quite easy to come up with ideas of what I think would benefit the UGA student body as it is stuff I would personally use if I was an incoming student. After lunch, we packed up and travelled to the Tate center for Snack Stop. An event to give students a break from the school day, grab a snack, and listen to some information we have available to students. This was my third time tabling and I found it easier to communicate with students on what the Fontaine center is, what we offer, and how connecting with us can benefit their experience here at UGA. I met a lot of different students and even saw some friends which was nice. I felt like we had given the students a chance to decompress and even some snacks to prepare for the winter storm coming in this weekend. After this, we packed up and got back to the office where I helped to clean up and organize things before reviewing some emails and discussing plans for working from home Monday if UGA’s campus closed.

Summary of Week 2 matched with Competencies:

  • 2.2 Define Desired Outcomes
    • 2.1.2: Facilitate collaborative efforts among priority populations, partners, and stakeholders.
    • 2.1.3:  Establish the rationale for the intervention

Summary: Throughout this week I brainstormed and designed events and workshops that can be presented to students throughout the fall semester. I worked with Aspen and other Fontaine staff to design activities and events that would be effective in presenting the information we want the students to take from the activity. Although these events are in the works and still require further development and testing, I believe a lot of thought has gone into why these events would benefit students and overall what knowledge and resources they should be leaving the events with.

  • 2.4 Develop plans and materials for implementation and evaluations
    • 2.4.2: Develop materials needed for implementation
    • 2.4.5: Plan for sustainability

Summary: This week, I worked on collecting materials that were needed for various events hosted. I reviewed and edited a sexual health education powerpoint presentation that Aspen was presenting to a class this week. This research was interesting and reminded me that health related information is always being updated and is something that should be edited when disseminating information to students. Along with this, I focused on ways that my future events can be reused for the future while still being effective and on point with the needs of future students. I discussed this a lot with Aspen as creating interesting and effective tabling events and workshops is something I want to accomplish during my internship. Having specific events  tied to the Fontaine center that students are excited about attending is something I think would be very special so planning for sustainability is a priority of mine while brainstorming these ideas.

  • 6.5 Deliver the message(s) effectively using the identified media and strategies
    • 6.5.1: Deliver presentation(s) tailored to the audience
    • 6.5.2: Use public speaking skills
    • 6.5.3: Use facilitation skills with large and/or small groups

Summary: While facilitating the snack stop tabling event in the Tate center, I had the opportunity to speak to a lot of different students about how they were feeling, ways they like to destress and some information about the Fontaine center. I used a variety of communication styles depending on the needs of my audience. If they had a short break between classes, I found ways to highlight the most important information and resources available to them. If students had a lot of time, I used that to develop a good conversation with them about how their day was going, what classes they had today, and then followed this up with what information we wanted to offer them and information cards on how to contact the Fontaine center and why they might want to access our resources during their time here at UGA.

Reflection of Week 2: When reflecting on my second week at the Fontaine Center, I feel like I am developing more ideas on what events I think could benefit the students on campus. Having the independence to work on ideas that I find interesting has been a unique but fulfilling experience. Although my internship is structured to the needs of the Fontaine Center, I have a lot of freedom to work on what interests me and they take on my opinions and ideas for future events. This has given me a lot of confidence to throw out any idea that comes to mind even if it is not the most developed. Even though I only worked two days this week, due to the MLK weekend, I found that my time in the office was well spent and was filled with active discussion, research, and lots of brainstorming. I am preemptively planning to be working from home Monday January 26th due to the incoming winter storm which will be interesting and another opportunity to see different working styles.

1/26/26

Due to the severe weather storm, UGA’s campus was closed and so I spent the day working from home. I continued working on daily tasks including outlining the Fontaine Center calendar for the fall semester and also coming up with ideas for tabling events and workshops. This day was definitely less structured than in office days but I liked that I had more freedom to complete tasks as it suited my schedule and not having a set 9-5 schedule. I am excited to discuss what I got up to with Aspen when I am in the office again on Wednesday.

1/27/26

As UGA’s campus opened back up today, the Fontaine Center hosted Connection Reception at Memorial Hall. I mostly handled the information table and got to meet a lot of students who came to the event. I worked on spreading information about the Fontaine Center, what resources we offer, and ways to connect students to our upcoming events. Alongside this, students had the opportunity to build a bear after connecting with other students using a bingo game board. The event was very fun and it was nice to see students show up alone but leave with some new friends.

1/28/26

I began my morning by meeting with Aspen to discuss what tasks I should focus on this morning and some meetings and events she would like me to attend next week. After this, I fulfilled some condom express orders and organized them to be shipped to campus dorms or picked up at the health center. Condom express is a resource that I believe a majority of students connect to the Fontaine center and being a part of that is so cool! Once I had completed this task, I began refocusing on outlining the Fontaine Calendar. This is one of my major tasks during this internship as we want to curate events and workshops that students associate with the Fontaine center specifically. This task takes a lot of time and trouble shooting as some ideas need to be flushed out or taken in a different route to be effective. Before lunch, Aspen gave me the task of completing slide decks for Lexi and Bethany who were presenting workshops on healthy relationships to high schoolers. This task seemed daunting but it went smoothly and the final presentation was appreciated by them. After lunch, I began focusing on tabling events for Ramsey’s free week August 18th to the 24th. I began by researching what wellness tabling other universities are doing that have been effective. This week is critical as there will be a lot of foot traffic in Ramsey and a great opportunity to promote the Fontaine Center and services we can offer students as they begin the new semester.

1/30/26

This morning I began by meeting with Kiana, another intern working with Bethany, and discussed how our internships have been going and what events we will be working on for next semester. It was nice to catch up as our schedules don’t align much during the week. After this, I participated in a team meeting on a potential campus event discussing PrEP. During this meeting I took notes on important points made and even participated in active dialogue concerning potential events and campus messaging. Shortly after the meeting had ended, I went with Aspen to deliver some flyers to residence halls around campus. Then we attended an event hosted by Anna Nasset who discussed her experience with stalking and bystander awareness. This event was emotional but powerful and gave me a lot of insight into what to do in this situation if I was affected or someone I know was affected by stalking. In the afternoon, I worked with Kiana on a potential collaborative tabling event we intend to host. We found that an activity that highlights students’ achievement throughout the semester and also provides them with tips and tricks on handling stress would be beneficial. I finished up my day with a one on one meeting with Aspen to go over some ideas I have brainstormed this week for the Fontaine Center calendar. This meeting was helpful as it helped me flush out some ideas and know what ideas should be my main focus on developing. During this meeting, we also discussed the possibility of working from home on Monday if the severe weather storm closes UGA’s campus.

Summary of Week 3 Matched with Competencies:

  • 2.4 Develop plans and materials for implementation and evaluations
    • 2.4.2: Develop materials needed for implementation
    • 2.4.5: Plan for sustainability

Summary: This week, I continued to work on brainstorming ideas for the Fontaine Center calendar. I feel like this week I had more opportunities to discuss these ideas with Aspen and other interns to get their opinions before continuing with developing these ideas. I mainly focused on developing ideas for the most critical months of the academic calendar (August and September) as these are times where vulnerable populations are most likely to participate in these risky behaviours related to sexual health and alcohol and other drug use.

  • 2.1 Engage priority populations, partners, and stakeholders for participation in the planning process.
    • 2.1.1: Convene priority populations, partners, and stakeholders.
    • 2.1.2: Facilitate collaborative efforts among priority populations, partners, and stakeholders.
    • 2.1.3: Establish the rationale for the intervention

Summary: During our PrEP meeting with staff from the Northeast Health District, we worked to discuss a potential collaboration that hopefully with target UGA students who may benefit from having access to PrEP or are seeking more information and resources concerning PrEP. It was an effective meeting which highlighted the need for HIV awareness and prevention strategies. Having the opportunity to work with community partners was insightful as HIV and PrEP is their speciality and they have more information to provide us about the importance of this potential collaboration.

Reflection of Week 3: When reflecting on my experience this week interning at the Fontaine Center, I feel confident on where my current ideas are going with brainstorming for the Fontaine calendar. I feel like I have had a lot of time to focus on brainstorming ideas and also discuss these ideas with Aspen, interns and other Fontaine center staff. I feel comfortable sharing ideas even though they might not be flushed out. I have also enjoyed the various opportunities to interact with the UGA community and spread more information about the Fontaine Center services, resources and upcoming events. I also feel more confident presenting this information to students who have not heard of the center. Overall, I am excited to continue working on ideas I have come up with and hopefully I can start organizing them and reach out to campus partners we would like to work with.

2/2/26

Today, I began my morning by completing some condom express orders. This is one of my favourite office tasks to complete as organizing the different orders is very satisfying and almost therapeutic. After this, I reviewed a presentation on stress management for typos and if the flow of content was effective for information retention. At 11am, I attended a collaborative meeting discussing stress management. During this meeting I took notes of important points and also participated in an active discussion with peers and faculty. I gave perspective on stress and stress management for a college student and what would benefit UGA students. It was interesting to see how stress management perception is different between staff and students and also how different groups of people are acknowledging the need for stress management on campus. After lunch, I began brainstorming some ideas for campus messaging including potential flyers, social media posts, and bus signs, etc. I focused mainly on healthy relationships as I feel like that topic is particularly important for college students. To finish up the day, I collaborated with Armani on a potential event, workshop and campus messaging concerning HIV and PrEP. We also discussed these ideas with Aspen and Bethany to see their opinions and thoughts.

2/4/26

Today, I spent the morning filling out condom express orders the office had received. Along with organizing the packages and refilling select condom brands that had run out during the process, I brought packages to the University Health Center basement for mailing to dormitories around campus. I also went through in-office orders that haven’t been picked up yet and unpacked these. After this, I filled out University Health clinic’s sexual health baggies that include a pamphlet on sexual health, lube, and condoms. I created 200 orders for these clinics so this took up a majority of my morning. In the afternoon, I caught up on emails and other messages I needed to respond to concerning upcoming events and planning. I continued to brainstorm campus messaging ideas and discussed these with a couple peer educators who were in office today. Later, I attended a stress management workshop held by Aspen that was presented to teach students how to understand what stress looks like and practical strategies that can help them manage stress. This was the first workshop presentation I attended and I felt like I learned more about the process of presenting information to a group of students. I also gained skills on managing stress and how to reduce stress while having a busy schedule.

2/6/26

Today, I began my morning meeting with Margaret Peterson, a pelvic floor specialist working at the University Health Center. I got to learn more about her job, how she got into this field and aspects of the field she enjoys most. This experience was unique and interesting. I had mentioned to Aspen how I would like to meet with certain team members to ask them about their role in the Fontaine Center and UHC and she has been a great help in organizing meeting times with these individuals. After this meeting, I began combining my list of things to do in Athens with the list created by peer educators. After completing this I forwarded this list to Aspen to confirm the list before sending it to the communication team. One comment we received from the stress management presentation was how to actually get started on necessary tasks. I took some time today researching techniques and tips on how to get started on tasks when we feel tired, unmotivated, and stressed. I made edits to the stress management workshop slideshow and forwarded this to Aspen for review. After lunch, I continued brainstorming ideas for campus messaging, this time focusing on stress management and wellness techniques. I also brainstormed some focus questions to ask students attending our Bears to Build event at the end of February. I focused mainly on wellness based questions that can probe the needs of students at this current time. To finish up the day, I worked with Kiana to further develop our tabling event for the last day of class. Our main idea is for students to stop by and grab wellness kits for finals week and also have an opportunity to have time with some therapy dogs. We took some time to browse Amazon to find some wellness kit accessories we would want to buy.

Summary of Week 4 Matched with Competencies:

  • 2.1 Engage priority populations, partners, and stakeholders for participation in the planning process.
    • 2.1.1: Convene priority populations, partners, and stakeholders.
    • 2.1.2: Facilitate collaborative efforts among priority populations, partners, and stakeholders.
    • 2.1.3: Establish the rationale for the intervention

Summary: This week, I had the opportunity to attend a collaborative meeting with various campus leaders and staff to discuss stress management on the UGA campus. This meeting gave me a lot of insight into the work and discussion that is currently being done to benefit the campus community. We discussed various causes of stress for college students and what can be done to reduce the stress the average college student feels on a daily basis. It was an effective and efficient meeting that outlined the needs of the community and what we can do to implement intervention and strategies to reduce student stress. We emphasized the competitiveness that comes with campus involvement and also how graduate programs and job opportunities are continuing to become more competitive which is adding to the stress students are feeling. We will continue to have monthly meetings to discuss the development of current ideas and I am excited to continue working towards a stress free campus.

  • 2.4 Develop plans and materials for implementation and evaluations
    • 2.4.2: Develop materials needed for implementation
    • 2.4.5: Plan for sustainability

Summary: Last week, we attended a meeting with the Northeast Health District where we discussed HIV and PrEP. This week I worked with Armani, a peer educator interning at the PRIDE center, to come up with a time and place on campus to host a tabling event at the Tate Center. The intention is for students to stop by, get some information on HIV and PrEP and also have the opportunity to get tested for HIV if they would like to. Along with meeting with Armani, I had an active discussion with Kiana about our last day of class tabling event. We discussed who we would need to contact, what material we would need to buy, and also what messaging we want to be presenting.

  • 6.2 Determine communication objective(s) for audience(s).
    • 6.2.1: Describe the intended outcome of the communication
    • 6.2.2: Identify factors that facilitate and/or hinder the intended outcome of the communication

Summary: This week, I focused on brainstorming and outlining various campus messaging. Aspen gave me the task of coming up with flyers, bus cards, and mini pamphlets. I wanted to focus on healthy relationships, healthy habits, mindfulness, stress management, etc. I knew the information would need to be bite size and simple enough for students to quickly read, retain the information, and pass this information to other people with little effort. While I will keep developing these ideas and discussing them with various staff, I feel confident in the direction I am going in.

Reflection of Week 4: When looking back at my fourth week at the Fontaine Center, I found myself highlighting the idea of collaboration. Through this week, I have had many opportunities to speak, meet, and have active discussion with Fontaine staff, peer educators, other interns, and even UGA executive board members. These experiences have given me a lot of insight into different ideas, opinions and what the UGA community is passionate about. Being able to actively discuss topics and ideas with these individuals has given me more confidence in speaking up in meetings and not feeling like my ideas are not valid or beneficial. I feel like my self-efficacy has increased within these past few weeks and that is something I am happy about. Moving forward, I want to continue fostering a positive mindset and also continue working on building relationships within the UGA community while creating ideas that will benefit the Fontaine Center.

2/9/26

I began this morning by completing a number of Condom Express that had come in over the weekend. I also refilled the packing station for future orders. After completing this task, I began preparing some items for our Snack Stop tabling event at Tate. This tabling event is one of my favourites as it draws in a large quantity of the UGA campus and gives us an opportunity to interact with students who may not be exposed to health promotion classes or the Fontaine Center. I got the opportunity to interact with a lot of different students who were intrigued to learn more about the Fontaine center and what services we offer. It was also a nice way for students to take a small break and grab some fuel for the rest of their day. Once we were done with the Snack Stop, we came back to the office and I helped Aspen unpack leftover food and materials we had. After lunch, I attended a sexual health classroom presentation that Aspen was presenting at Ramsey. During this presentation, I took notes on important details and questions that students asked for more information or clarity on. This experience gave me more insight into various presentation styles and how to keep the audience interested. I finished my day by reviewing the schedule for the rest of the week and brainstorming some more campus messaging ideas.

2/11/26

I began this busy day by completing Condom Express orders that had come in this week. I restocked the order station and placed the orders in their required areas for shipping and processing. After this, I reviewed a powerpoint presentation on healthy relationships and sexual health that Aspen would be presenting later this week. I also took some time to pick out colouring pages that would be used by students during an upcoming event called Crafted with Kindness. I also began pulling materials for the Crafted with Kindness event and cutting out crafts that students would have the opportunity to complete during the event. After these tasks, I began a series of mini meetings with various staff members here at the Fontaine Center. I began with a meeting with Bethany and Rowan. I used this time to get to know their role here, how they got to this position, and what interests them most about their career choice. I followed this with a meeting with Lex and Taylor, and to finish a meeting with Rachelle. These meetings were insightful and gave me more exposure to other fields within Health Promotion. After this, I continued helping Aspen with organizing materials for events happening this week. To finish up the day, I attended an event hosted at the Black-Diallo-Miller residence hall that was led by Aspen and a RA. During this event, students learned more about healthy relationships and contraception use. I facilitated an interactive game of ranking various birth control methods from most effective to least effective. It was a great opportunity to interact with students and learn more about what information or misinformation they have received previously. I have enjoyed the various opportunities to participate in programs and workshops and I am excited to continue working in this events.

2/13/26

I started my day completing Condom Express orders that came in throughout the week. I also placed them in their necessary places for pick up and shipping. After this, I began preparing bags for a Snack Stop event we are hosting next week. Later, we had a tabling event at the Tate Center called Lemontine. During this event we handed out pink lemonade to students and provided information on the Fontaine Center, healthy relationships and self love. After lunch, I continued working on packing 500+ Snack Stop bags and also helped Aspen unpack from the Lemontines tabling event. I began brainstorming some slogans for table mats that would be used during Kindness week. After coming up with these and confirming them with Aspen I began writing them out. Shortly after, I packed some Fontaine Center shirts that we want to distribute to students during the tabling events coming up next week. I wrapped up my day by discussing plans and expectations for next week’s events.

Summary of Week 5 Matched with Competencies:

  • 2.4 Develop plans and materials for implementation and evaluations
    • 2.4.2: Develop materials needed for implementation
    • 2.4.5: Plan for sustainability

Summary: Throughout this week I worked with Kiana, a fellow Fontaine Center intern, to come up with our co-presented tabling event that is set for the last day of classes. We brainstormed what messages and themes we wanted to highlight and how certain activities and materials would benefit students who stop at our table. We worked with Aspen and Bethany to confirm the effectiveness of our ideas and began reviewing materials we would have to order while considering the budget we have. Our goal is for this event to be hosted yearly so we are pre-planning an evaluation process that could help with keeping this tabling event sustainable for future semesters.

  • 6.5 Deliver the message(s) effectively using the identified media and strategies
    • 6.5.1: Deliver presentation(s) tailored to the audience
    • 6.5.2: Use public speaking skills
    • 6.5.3: Use facilitation skills with large and/or small groups

Summary: Throughout this week, I participated in various workshops and tabling events where I had to be particular with how I wanted to present information to students. I tailored my short presentations based on interest, questions and timing that students had. For a lot of students, tabling is a quick stop along their busy schedule so I know to highlight the important details about the Fontaine Center, resources available to them, and fun events we have planned for the rest of the semester. Highlighting Bears to Build has been a crowd favourite and has brought a lot of attention for the center. If students have more questions or just want to have a conversation, I expand upon my points and participate in more candid conversations which are my personal favourites

  • 6.6 Evaluate Communication
    • 6.6.1: Conduct process and impact evaluations of communications
    • 6.6.2: Conduct outcome evaluations of communications

Summary: This week, I attended multiple workshop presentations that Aspen presented to students. One in particular was the sexual health presentation which highlighted different types of healthy relationship behaviours, forms of birth control, and resources available to students on campus and in Athens. During this presentation, I took notes on questions asked by students and whether these questions were based on confusion or curiosity. I used these notes to formulate additional activities and content to the presentation.

Reflection of Week 5: When I look back on my fifth week interning at the Fontaine Center, I found myself very comfortable in the weekly work flow. Each week there is a new and interesting task or opportunity to work with. This week I felt like I had a variety of tabling and workshop opportunities to work with and connect to the UGA community. I found myself more comfortable talking to students about various health related topics and concerns and feel more confident representing the Fontaine Center with accurate information and resources. Hosting a small workshop at Black-Diallo-Miller hall was the highlight of my week as it gave me insight in working with a smaller group of students for a longer period of time. Overall, I am very satisfied with the work I have completed this week and I am excited to continue next week as we focus on Kindness week.

2/16/26

I began my day by completing condom express orders that came in over the weekend. Shortly after, we packed up the car and headed to the Tate Center to kick off Kindness Week with Crafted with Kindness. This event lasted until 2pm and consisted of a series of tables with different items to craft including friendship bracelets, notes to friends, origami, and colouring sheets. This event was a nice way for students to take time out of their busy schedules to craft a gift for themselves or a friend. It was also a great opportunity to provide students with information on different events we have the rest of this week and throughout the semester. After this event, I helped Aspen unpack from the event before taking lunch. After lunch, I brainstormed an outline for a healthy relationships program in a box which can be provided to all residence halls so that students can still receive programming without needing a Fontaine Center educator there to present the information. The idea is for the box to contain the goals and objectives of the program, activities included, resources and equipment supplied, competencies that will be met, and images that go with the presentation. We will also include a feedback survey to see if students are retaining the information presented to them and also if there are any areas of improvement they think would benefit the experience. To finish up my day, I helped Aspen pack for tomorrow’s event Snack Stop.

1/18/26

I began my morning completing and shipping Condom Express orders that came in this week. Shortly after this, I had a one on one meeting with Aspen to go over current projects I am working on. I completed some small tasks after this meeting including making buttons to hand out during our event Friday Bears to Build. I also created 30 mini bags that included material to create a bracelet. Later, I began looking at items to order for the last day of class tabling event that Kiana and I are hosting. I was particularly interested in buying small stress balls that students use as a coping mechanism during stressful situations they may be in during finals week and during the summer. I spent the rest of my afternoon researching and writing up a google doc that included information on vasectomies, natural fertility tracking, and placebo pills to be added to the contraception slideshow. After completing this I shared it with Aspen to be included in the slideshow.

1/20/26

Today, the Fontaine Center hosted Bears to Build, which gave students the opportunity to stuff a teddy bear of their choice while meeting other UGA students. This event was a great way to wrap up Kindness week and we got to interact with other 500+ students. I began my morning by working from home on some of the major projects I have been handling this semester. I developed most activities for the Program in a Box and will discuss these ideas with Aspen in my next one on one meeting Monday. At 3:30pm, I walked over to the Tate Center and began prepping for the event. I worked the Fontaine Center table along with Kiana to highlight important events we have coming up in the semester that we think students would benefit from. One of these events is the Bear Meet Up, where students can build accessories for the bears they built this evening. It is also a great opportunity for students to meet other students who they might not typically interact with. The goal of these events is for students to connect to their community and build on healthy relationship practices. Overall, I enjoyed this event the most so far as I got to see some new and familiar faces from other tabling events. This was a great opportunity for the Fontaine Center to get the student body more familiar with them and being a part of that was very special.

Summary of Week 6 Matched with Competencies:

  • 6.5 Deliver the message(s) effectively using the identified media and strategies
    • 6.5.1: Deliver presentation(s) tailored to the audience
    • 6.5.2: Use public speaking skills
    • 6.5.3: Use facilitation skills with large and/or small groups

Summary: This week the Fontaine Center hosted Kindness Week. Multiple times this week I was tabling and interacting with students. I felt like I had more opportunities to develop my public speaking skills and also have more intimate conversations with students that were not surface level. A lot of the events hosted during Kindness week had students spending more time with us instead of just stopping by to grab information. This opportunity gave us more time to get to know individual students and highlight information we thought would be best suited to them. It was really nice to see familiar faces at multiple events, especially Bears to Build where students brought friends and also met new people there.

  • 2.4 Develop plans and materials for implementation and evaluations
    • 2.4.2: Develop materials needed for implementation
    • 2.4.5: Plan for sustainability

Summary: Throughout this week, I have been focusing on developing materials for the Program in a Box concept. We want the information on healthy relationships to be accurate and presented in a way that individual students using the material or RA dispersing the information is almost as effective as when a Fontaine Center staff member facilitates the program. I have been completing a lot of research and brainstorming on effective activities that can help students understand what healthy relationships should be and what to do if they find themselves or someone else in an unhealthy relationship. I am continuing to develop these ideas and I am hoping to begin creating prototypes for the activities so they can be tested by other interns and peer educators prior to implementation to the residence halls.

  • 6.2 Determine communication objective(s) for audience(s).
    • 6.2.1: Describe the intended outcome of the communication
    • 6.2.2: Identify factors that facilitate and/or hinder the intended outcome of the communication

Summary: While working on Program in a Box, I have considered a variety of things when determining the effectiveness of an activity. I have used prior experiences observing workshops, presentation activities, and even personal experiences in classroom settings. I have found that activities need to be relatively short, easy to comprehend, and have the ability to go into as much or as little detail as the students would like. A majority of the activities I have created are relatively easy to follow and are based on an active discussion that students should have while completing. I am hoping that I can print out a prototype of the activity and present it to staff, peer educators, and other interns to get their opinions on the activity and what they took away from the material.

Reflection of Week 6: When reflecting on week 6 of my internship, I felt like this week highlighted the core values of the Fontaine Center. Friendship week gave students a variety of opportunities to take a break, complete a fun activity, and feel more connected with the UGA community. It was a special moment to be a part of and I am excited to continue working with Aspen and the rest of the team to provide students more opportunity to learn more healthy behaviours and build on the relationships they have on campus. My focus for next week is to continue developing ideas for Program in a Box and finalize items we need to order for our last day of class tabling event.

2/23/26

I began my morning by discussing the Bears to Build event with staff. Overall, the event seemed to be a hit with students and gained a lot more traction than we had initially thought. We were able to engage with over 700+ students which was amazing! After this short meeting, I began completing condom express orders that came in over the weekend and then proceeded to organize our large storage closet which contains bulk condom packaging. I then helped Aspen unpack from the events we had last week and cleared out resources, handouts and flyers that were outdated and needed to be discarded. At 11am, I had a one on one meeting with Aspen where we discussed goals for the rest of the week and projects she wanted me to focus on. I went over the potential order list for the last day of class tabling event Kiana and I are hosting and hopefully we can submit this order by the end of the week. After lunch, I continued working on the last day of class tabling event and solidified the plan more with Kiana. I had a small headache in the afternoon so I took some time to create some pins before helping Aspen with an up to date contraception presentation game.

2/25/26

I began my morning completing some condom express orders that came in during the week. After this, I began working on edits that Aspen had given me on my contraception research. I looked into research studies conducted on Natural Cycles and Oura rings and also did more research on vasectomies as a form of birth control. After this, Aspen asked me to collect some items we would need for a tabling event and to set them aside. After lunch, I continued working on activities for Program in a Box and focused mainly on activities that would be quick, meaningful and did not promote shame to students who might participate in behaviours that are viewed as unhealthy. My favourite part of the day was the tabling event we hosted at the Pharmacy college. It was part of a larger event hosted by the Pharmacy college to provide students with opportunities to socialize, get resources on wellness, and even win a raffle prize. Our table provided students with information on various wellness resources that are available to UGA students on campus. We also gave our fidget spinners, bandaids, lip balms, flyers, and badges. I got the opportunity to speak to a lot of different students and helped guide them to the CAPS table when they mentioned the stress that comes with Pharmacy school. Overall, it was a great event and it was a nice way to get out into the community.

2/27/26

Today, I worked from home and had a productive day. I began my morning by reviewing details concerning the last day of class tabling event Kiana and I are hosting before meeting with her to discuss our final plans. During our meeting, we discussed details including what we wanted to call the event, what items we need to order for our wellness bags, what pin and sticker ideas we want to create, and also what flyers and stress relief content we want to present to students. We have confirmed that a therapy dog will be at the event which we feel will bring in a lost of student traffic and also give students an opportunity to take a break and unwind for a period of time before finals week. After this meeting, I forwarded the google doc to Aspen and Bethany so they could review the content and determine if there is anything else we need to determine before ordering items for the event. In the afternoon, I continued working on Program in a Box, focusing mainly on researching what other schools have done to present information to students in an effective way. I finished my day by reviewing plans for next week and come up with any content questions I have for Aspen before spring break.

Summary of Week 7 Matched with Competencies:

  • 2.4 Develop plans and materials for implementation and evaluations
    • 2.4.2: Develop materials needed for implementation
    • 2.4.5: Plan for sustainability

Summary: Throughout the past couple of weeks, Kiana and I have been brainstorming ideas for the last day of class tabling event. We are hoping that this event will be a hit and something that the Fontaine Center continues to implement each semester for the last day of classes. The intention behind the event is to provide students an opportunity to relax, interact with a service dog, and grab a goodie bag that will contain a snack, a herbal tea packet, resources on mindfulness and stress relief techniques, and a stress ball. We are also planning to have colouring sheets, pins, and stickers for students to grab for themselves and friends. We are planning to make the event impactful but also simple to replicate for future semesters so that it can be associated with the Fontaine Center.

  • 6.5 Deliver the message(s) effectively using the identified media and strategies
    • 6.5.1: Deliver presentation(s) tailored to the audience
    • 6.5.2: Use public speaking skills
    • 6.5.3: Use facilitation skills with large and/or small groups

Summary: Throughout this internship, I have participated in various tabling events to provide students with information about healthy behaviours including mindfulness, healthy relationships, and stress management. Although we have tabled at various locations around campus, we had an opportunity to offer a wellness tabling event at the Pharmacy college as part of a larger social event for students. This was a great opportunity to meet students who are under lots of pressure and may be unaware of the resources available to them on campus. We handed out bandaids, lip balms, fidget spinners, badges, stickers, and flyers to students and had active conversations about healthy habits while stressed from academics.

  • 2.1 Engage priority populations, partners, and stakeholders for participation in the planning process.
    • 2.1.1: Convene priority populations, partners, and stakeholders.
    • 2.1.2: Facilitate collaborative efforts among priority populations, partners, and stakeholders.

Summary: While brainstorming ideas for the last day of class tabling event, Kiana and I have worked towards a common goal of providing students stress relief activities and items. Although we are working independently on this event, we have been given guidance and advice from Aspen and Bethany on the effectiveness of items chosen and also the intentions of our tabling event. They are both knowledgeable about what goes into an effective tabling event and have been helpful in brainstorming ideas and providing us access to previously used resources and templates.

Reflection of Week 7: When I reflect back on Week 7 of my internship, I feel more connected to the events I am participating in and creating. I feel confident facilitating information to undergraduate and graduate students and rely less on Aspen when answering new questions students have asked me. Public speaking was one skill I was hoping to develop during this internship and I feel confident that I am developing conversation skills that will benefit me in the future. Moving forward, I am most excited to finalize details for the last day of class tabling event and begin ordering items for it. I am also interested in discussing more ideas with Aspen for the Program in a Box as I feel I need more guidance with specific activities that will be easy for students to facilitate on their own while still gaining adequate content from it.
