Athens Heart Center
I was trained as a Medical Assistant to work with underserved communities within the Athens-Clarke area including veterans, Medicaid/Medicare recipients, and low-income persons of color. I was trained to take chart, code, bill and take vitals including manual blood pressure, glucose testing, pitting testing, and setting up and running EKGs. I gave therapeutic and weight lose injections and worked with patients to create healthy lifestyle habits. I attended meetings on billing, charting and patient scheduling and presented patients to the overseeing doctor. I trained and mentored incoming volunteers.

Piedmont Athens-Regional Hospital
I had the opportunity to volunteer in the following units: Radiology registration, Endoscopy, Pediatrics, and Orthopedics. I interacted with patients, CNAs, and nurses in these units. I restocked medical supplies, bedding, and patient room supplies like gloves and masks. I wiped down surfaces around the unit and in patients rooms and also handed out meals and drinks to patients during rounds and shift changes. I got to speak to many different healthcare providers and learn about their experience in their unit and in the hospital environment.

Athens Humane Society
I volunteered in the feline department of the humane society. I cleaned out and sanitized litter boxes and cat condos. I cleaned and replaced blankets, food, and water for each cat. I played, socialized and provided enrichment to cats of varying ages. I also brought cats to play rooms to meet potential adopters and gave them information on different cats they would potentially be interested in adopting. I helped out with birthday parties held at the humane society, bringing out cats for the children to interact and play with.
